First Robotics

FIRST was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

The Lima Family YMCA is pleased to offer teens in 9th to 12th grade an exciting chance not only to design and build a robot for competition in the FIRST Robotics competition, but also build marketing, speaking, design/ presentation skills. This is a mentor-based program to inspire young minds to be leaders in the field of science and technology. Students will learn from Professional Engineers from the Lima area, use advanced software and tools, design and build their own robot and compete in a regional competition.

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a year-long program that teaches middle and high school students how to start and run their own REAL businesses.  YEA! was developed at the University of Rochester in 2004 with the support of a grant from the Kauffman Foundation.  The Lima Area Chamber Foundation and Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce is excited to be introducing YEA! to the Lima/Allen Community!
