There is a critical shortage of manufacturing job seekers in at all skill levels, from entry-level low-skilled workers to people with two-year, four-year, and advanced degrees.

This talent shortage of jobseekers with the right skills makes business sustainability and growth for local manufacturers very challenging.

Advance Manufacturing PathwayOne of Link Lima/Allen County’s mission critical initiatives is support of the advanced manufacturing career pathway that can cultivate the needed talent for these employers.

Training and Certification Programs at Rhodes State College, Apollo Career Center, Ohio State University-Lima, Lima Senior High School, Ohio Northern University, University of Northwestern Ohio and other local colleges and career tech schools are being aligned with the specific needs of the manufacturing employers in the region, in close association with the West Central Ohio Manufacturing Consortium.

An advanced manufacturing task force has been formed at OhioMeansJobs-Allen County to screen and prepare candidates for interviews with local employers, and to coach jobseekers through their first year of employment.

Through the State of Ohio, employers can receive on-the-job-training (OJT) funding that can help pay for a qualified employee’s initial wages or training expense.

Design and implementation of this enhanced process was funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (OhioMeansJobs).

Advanced manufacturing will continue to be at the forefront of business success for Allen County and the surrounding region. The advanced manufacturing pathway provides the road to a plentiful talent pipeline of qualified workers with the right skills for the advanced manufacturing sector.
